Over a decade ago, we began to cast a vision for our church members to consider short-term mission trips for the purpose of helping meet needs and start churches in other nations. We were invited to join another church in town to go to Chimaltenango, Guatemala for a week of home building and evangelistic ministry. During this trip we met Kirk and Michelle Lightfield, who were full-time missionaries- originally from the Midwest. Their love and intentionality with the Guatemalan community moved us deeply and led us to partner with them in ministry.
Guatemala is a poor and predominately Roman Catholic (61%) country that struggles in several areas of health and development. In this context, the Lightfields seek to share the love of Jesus Christ, one family at a time, seeking to “do their best to present themselves to God as one approved, workers who don’t need to be ashamed and who correctly handle the word of truth.” (2 Tim 2:15)
